Chapter 919: Back To The Future

Some major info-dumping this chapter, which is to be expected given that this is the point in the arc when we get the historical context on why the bad guys need to go down. We however also find out that there's a freakin Devil Fruit that can literally send you forward in time, and Oda cleverly closes the can of worms by clarifying that the time traveling can only be forward. Certainly begs the question of the fruit's current whereabouts if Toki is indeed deceased, but all in due time! Let's dig in shall we?

I first find it quite interesting that there appears to be some kind of door at the base of the rock formation Oden Castle rests upon. It could end up being a completely minor detail, but it piqued my curiousity nonetheless just what c…

Expect The Unexpected

This potential development with Scratchmen Apoo has made me reflect on all the times during this series that knee-jerk reactions to plot twists (or the appearance of a plot twists) have led us astray. Throughout the course of this series, Oda has proven himself an absolute mastermind of manipulating our psyche around the seemingly obvious. Sometimes the seemingly obvious turns out to be exactly what we all think, but more often than not as of late, the seemingly obvious has served as a Trojan Horse for something else to COMPLETELY blow our minds. A few recent of examples of Oda's Masterful Mindfuckery:

"The next StrawHat"  - We drove ourselves insane with speculation of who was going to join the crew next, positive that there has to be a ne…

Diez Drake

Now that we know a trip to Wano is bound to happen at some point in the near future (next 1-3 arcs), the role that Drake will be playing is really starting to pique my curiosity. Next to Luffy and the Straw Hats, he's about as atypical as a pirate can be. He seems to have a rather strong sense of justice, and even more interesting, seems to care about the lives of his Supernova peers. He more than once tried to get them out of trouble on Sabaody; you can claim Urouge vs. Killer was all about not drawing attention, but him trying to take on Kizaru was definitely about saving their lives and buying more time for everyone. Furthermore, he left the Marines due to sensing moral corruption, not JUST to become a pirate. While Capone now seems to …

Important Takeaways from Ch. 805

Like the beginning of any arc, the initial few chapters are going to leave us with more questions than answers. However given how deep we have gotten into the series at this point, we now have enough background knowledge to at least have hypotheses for a lot of the initial questions of an arc. Specifically for this arc, Chapter 805 has begun to slowly unravel these mysteries for us, while slowly adding in some new ones we have no way of being prepared for. Here's what I think definitely warrants some more mental attention from the most recent chapter:

1.) Electro - We now understand Zoro was making that face as he clashed with Carrot last chapter because he was literally being electrocuted in the process........wow. The power was surging th…

Chapter 804 - Minks In Mokomo

Surprised I didn't already see a few blogs for this, but I guess that means they're all gonna post at the same time as me lol. Either way, the crew has OFFICIALLY made it to Zou......well minus Kin'emon & Kanjuro. Our surprise dropping from the sky turns out to be a frickin Monkey in a full suit and top hat. A 3rd voice which it makes sense to assume is him advises against "unauthorized entry", so he was perhaps one of the entry way guards and/or perhaps even this "Bariete" fellow that Carrot mentioned. Speaking of, Carrot refers the group as "Lesser Minks", in my opinion implying the Minks may have some kind of superiority complex over humans. It would certainly make things pretty interesting, its kinda typical for the protagonists to hav…
