SQ-logo

The Special Quality figure series, always shortened to SQ, is one of the series produced by Banpresto, alongside Master Stars Piece, to go along their strategy of making very high quality figures, going over the market segment occupied by Megahouse with its Portrait of Pirates series. It involves female characters from successful Japanese franchises like Macross Frontier, K-On or Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Figures are generally available in Japanese game centers and their UFO catchers, some exclusive versions can go through raffles or other kind of campaigns.

Despite SQ is generally given as the acronym for Special Quality, Banpresto advertises those initials as having a more deep meaning:

  • S can stand for Special, Super or Surprise,
  • Q can stand for Quest, Queen or Quality.

So SQ can actually stand for any combination of the above words, emphasizing on the charms of the characters in the line and on the quality of the final products.

One Piece Special Quality Figure ~Boa Hancock~[]

One Piece Special Quality Figure ~Boa Hancock~ is a unique figure produced by Banpresto. Despite being rather popular, Banpresto has expressively forbidden to sell this figure on any Internet site, arguing that it should be an exclusive item for its game centers.

Being 22 cm tall, it was first released on the 10th of December 2010, then re-released on January 2011. A special white colored version could also be won through a raffle campaign from December 10, 2010 to January 31, 2011.
