Commodore Pudding Pudding[2] (プリンプリン准将 Purinpurin Junshō) is a Marine Commander (中佐, Chūsa) in the 77th Branch of the Marines, who is dispatched to Arlong Park to evacuate the survivors of Arlong's tyrannical reign. He never arrives. When Pudding Pudding sees the Fishman's base, hubris gets the better of the Commander, and he orders an attack. This provokes Arlong's ire, and the Fishman crew makes quick work of Pudding Pudding and his ship, sending it to the bottom of the sea in an artificial maelstrom.
[edit] Manga Influences
It was asked by a fan if Pudding Pudding was modeled after Purin Purin-chan from the 1981 anime, "The Adventures of Purin Purin". Oda confirmed the similarity between the two characters as his older sister liked the show. He however only remembered the name and hairstyle.[3]
[edit] Translation and Dub Issues
His name "Purin Purin" translates to "Pudding Pudding".
