Monster[7] is one of the Senior Officers and musicians[5] of the Red Hair Pirates.[4] He first appeared playing with his crew at the Partys Bar.[2]

Appearance[]

Monster is a relatively large monkey with tiny eyes and head fur tied up into a topknot. Like many monkeys, he has brown fur over most of his body, but has white fur on his stomach, face and hands.[2]

12 years ago, Monster was smaller, with beady eyes and no topknot.

Personality[]

Monster seems to be very jolly and fun-loving, as he was seen partying with Shanks and his crew.[2]

In the Red Hair Pirates, he is frequently seen perched around Bonk Punch's shoulders.[3][8]

Abilities and Powers[]

Monster is a Senior Officer of the Red Hair Pirates, giving him authority over lower-ranking members of the crew.[4] Despite being a monkey, he possesses high intelligence and can understand humans.[5]

Monster fights in tandem with Bonk Punch, beating up weaker enemies while Punch charges up the strength of his own attacks to deal with stronger foes.[5]

After Luffy stabbed his own eye, Monster partied with the Red Hair Pirates at Partys Bar in celebration of Luffy's craziness.[2]

Marineford Arc[]

Monster showed up alongside Bonk Punch and fellow main fighters of the crew in order to stop the Summit War of Marineford, being ready to fight if the fighting kept on.[3]

Whole Cake Island Saga[]

From the Decks of the World: The 500,000,000 Man Arc[]

After the timeskip, Monster and some members of the Red Hair Pirates were at the ruins of a certain island.[8]

Wano Country Saga[]

Monster celebrated with Bonk Punch at the news of Luffy joining the Four Emperors.[9]

One Piece Film: Red[]

Uta organized a concert on Elegia in order to realize her dream of performing for the whole world. Monster was present during the concert.[10]

Final Saga[]

Egghead Arc[]

Monster was later on board the ship when the crew dropped Marco off at the shores of Sphinx,[11] and later partied with the crew at Elbaf, alongside the Giants when they received word that the Kid Pirates were challenging them.[12] Monster later was on the ship when Shanks singlehandedly defeated the Kid Pirates and Dorry and Brogy destroyed the Victoria Punk.[13]

His name was romanized as Monstar by some early fan translations. However, it is spelled "Monster" in the English edition of the 7th popularity poll, to date the only professional rendering.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Monster is classified as a Type B creature, "Small Friendly".[14]
  • Monster may be named after the Monster Energy brand of energy drinks. This fits with the drink-based naming scheme of some of the Red Hair Pirates.
