The Manticores are animals with human faces, but lion bodies. Each of their faces are different, similar to actual humans.

Similar to their boss, the Sphinx, the Manticores learn the words of humans and mimic them, but have no understanding of what they truly mean. Most of the words they mimic are underpants related.

The Manticores are man-eating animals, and they eat their victims to the point that not even the bones remain, similar to the Kuja's panther, Bacura.

The Manticores first appeared in Level 2, giving Monkey D. Luffy, Buggy, and Mr. 3 trouble when they tried to reach to the lower levels to rescue Portgas D. Ace.
When Luffy led a mass-breakout army, the Manticores were once again trying to impede their moves, but ultimately failed.
