The Toei Animation One Piece anime has been released on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray in Japan. The TV series has been released by Avex Group, the first nine movies were released by Toei Video and Movies 10 onwards have been released by Pony Canyon. More than 100 DVDs have been released.

The TV series is initially released as single disc "Pieces" containing 2-5 episodes, with "Log" re-releases containing 13-19 episodes following from July 23, 2010. The first DVD was released on February 21, 2001, which contained four episodes. The Pieces were released simultaneously on VHS and DVD during the first two seasons [1], and rental VHS versions continued to be released until the end of season eight [2]. Starting with Episode 575, the series was also released on Blu-ray.

The first 206 episodes were produced in the 4:3 "Fullscreen" aspect ratio. Starting with episode 207, Toei began to produce and broadcast the series in the HDTV 16:9 aspect ratio, but Avex decided to release episodes 207-229 (The Entire Davy Back Fight Arc and Filler arcs between that and Water 7) in the non-native 4:3 aspect ratio, cropping the image. This also affected the Log release of these episodes [3]. The rest of the series is released for sale on DVD in the unaltered widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, however Avex has provided cropped 4:3 versions of the DVDs to DVD rental stores in Japan. This, unfortunately, has caused some misconception that Toei only made the show available in 4:3 to fans not native to Japan, because the most common DVD raws found cited online were from the 4:3 rental copies.

Season 1Edit

Toei divided the series into seasons: The first season is the only one that did not have any special title, but it has subsequently been referred to online as "East Blue".[4]
