Priests[]

Priests (神官, Shinkan?, "God's Officers"), referred to as Vassals in the 4Kids dub (or in One Piece: Pirates Carnival), Kami's Vassals in the Viz Manga and Sky Knights in FUNimations' edited dub, are the four men who serve under Enel.[3] They are his strongest followers and, short of Enel himself, the greatest threat to the Straw Hat Pirates during the Skypiea Arc. Each have their own unique Dial-based weapons. All of them can use Mantra to predict what his opponents will do before they attack, and dodge them effectively. They first appeared in Chapter 254 and Episode 167. The four Priests are:

Divine Soldiers[]

The Divine Soldiers.

Along with the priests, Enel has 50 warriors called the Divine Soldiers (神兵, Shinpei?) to fight for him. Yama is the leader, while Hotori and Kotori are the lieutenants of the group. They have strange pendent organs on both sides of the head and horns, with the exception of Yama. The Enforcers all act like goats, as if they bleat out words when they talk. Each of them is armed with an Axe Dial, which fires out an invisible blade to attack enemies, and each wear a Jet Ski, which allows them to travel through the clouds.[citation needed] Commander Yama uses a sash that has ten Axe Dials attached to it. Unlike the rest of the Divine Soldiers, Hotori and Kotori use other Dials in battle and also posses the ability to use Mantra like their brother, Satori

Divine Squad[]

Main article: Divine Squad

After usurping the position of God from Gan Fall, Enel took control of the 650 members of his Divine Squad (神隊, Shintai?). For six years, they were forced to work as slaves constructing the Ark Maxim.[4]

White Berets[]

Main article: God's Guards

The White Berets (ホワイトベレー, Howaito Berē?) are similar to the Marines of the Blue Sea. They enforce the rules of Skypiea under Enel's rule, but in truth they despise him and only obey him for the sake of the Skypiea's citizens; upon realizing his intention of killing everyone in Skypiea, the police force turned against him. The White Berets are led by McKinley.[5]

History[]

Eight years before the current storyline, Enel formed his army of loyal Birkan warriors as his followers before destroying their homeland with the power of the Goro Goro no Mi, they soon left in search for another sky island.[6] Upon reaching the island Skypiea Enel and his followers conquered and overthrew their current ruler Gan Fall and became the new ruler taking the mantle of "God".[7] Under Enel's rule the white beret forces were forced into obeying his rule for the sake of their citizens while his followers formed various factions with the priests serving directly under Enel, the divine squad led under his follower Yama and Hattori's brothers, along with servants Enel kept around.

Skypiea Arc[]

The Straw Hat Pirates arrived at Skypiea and became enemies of Enel and his army spending the storyline fighting Enel's priests and his divine squad, with Roronoa Zoro fighting and defeating Ohm, Sanji defeating Hattori, Wyper defeating Shura, Tony Tony Chopper defeating Gedatsu, and Nico Robin defeating Yama, and Nami and Gan Fall defeating Hotori and Kotori. Following Enel's defeat at the hands of Monkey D. Luffy, he used the ark Maxim to flee to the Moon while his army was presumably sentenced to Cloud Drifting.[8] Gedatsu however, was spared from this fate as he fell down into the Blue Sea and went on to help build a hot spring.[9]

Trivia[]

  • They were the first antagonist group to display a form of Haki, though it wasn't confirmed until the end of the Post-War Arc.[10]
