Rokai is a character from the game Set Sail Pirate Crew!. He also assumed the identity of Skullface, who served as the game's main antagonist.[1]

Appearance[]

Rokai as Skullface

Rokai is a normal sized man with scraggly brown hair. He has a wide nose and a long, black beard. He wears a black pirate's coat with yellow shoulders and red and yellow coat cuffs. Under his coat, he has a white button-down V-neck and a gold necklace. He also wears a black and red pirate hat with his crew's jolly roger on it with a green bandana underneath and an eye patch covering his left eye.

Rokai has a shockingly similar appearance to Woonan. The only difference between the two is that Rokai has a beard.

When he assumes the identity of Skullface, he wears a mask that makes it look like his face is that of a skull.

Personality[]

While appearing to be vicious and sadistic as Skullface, Rokai is actually a melancholic person who wishes to stop others from pursuing the Treasure Ancien and being overtaken by its curse like he was, even allowing the curse to control him out of his own guilt for being made to kill his original crew members. He retains that attitude even while he isn't controlled by it attempting to dissuade the Gejitsu Pirates from searching for the Fragments Anciens by saying that doing so will destroy "the most important thing that makes you a pirate... and a man" before leaving, suggesting that he didn't want to have to fight them.

Abilities and Powers[]

Rokai is a powerful pirate who could extensively battle the Straw Hats using his sharpened hook and was under a curse tied to the Treasure Ancien, allowing him, his ship and his crew to withstand extreme amounts of punishment and keep going. He was also seemingly able to surround the Going Merry with fog so they wouldn't be able to see he was the one who attacked them, and once the curse took full possession of him in their final battle, his entire body turned gold and he was able to deflect almost all of their attacks, only losing because the Straw Hats and Gejitsu Pirates wore him out. Even after that, Skullface was able to launch an ultimate attack in order to spread the curse over all of them, but they were able to resist it thanks to their willpower.

History[]

Rokai used to be a regular pirate captain who looked for the Treasure Ancien, a treasure from a bygone era said to bring unimaginable wealth to whoever will manage to collect its pieces, the six Fragments Anciens, and re-join them. Although he was successful, Rokai was then possessed by a curse tied to the Treasure Ancien and forced to kill his own crewmates, and then began to hunt down anyone else who was looking for the Fragments Anciens as Skullface.

At the start of the game, Skullface attacks the Going Merry and causes the Straw Hat Pirates to be scattered across the East Blue. He is encountered as both Rokai and Skullface by the Straw Hats and their new allies the Gejitsu Pirates, who collect the Fragments and then fight Skullface after deducing he has the last Fragment. Once he is defeated, Rokai's original personality resurfaces and tearfully confesses to what happened to his original crew, revealing that he submitted to Skullface out of guilt because he wanted to prevent more people from pursuing the Treasure Ancien and falling to its curse. The Straw Hats urge Rokai to fight the curse and argue that he should live for himself if he wants to honor his crewmates, but Skullface takes over again and attempts to spread the curse into the Straw Hats and Gejitsu pirates. The Straw Hats manage to resist the curse through sheer will and counterattack, defeating Skullface for good.
