Ishigo Shitemanna[3] is an appraiser in Water 7.[2]

Appearance[]

Ishigo is a pale man with short black hair and a large, pointed mustache. He wears a white shirt with purple overalls.

Personality[]

He is both unscrupulous enough to short-change new customers, and cowardly enough to immediately yield when threatened. However, he does appear to be a genuinely competent appraiser of valuables.

History[]

Water 7 Saga[]

Water 7 Arc[]

Ishigo Inspecting Gold

Ishigo inspecting the gold that the Straw Hats brought to him.

When Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, and Usopp brought him their Skypiean gold to exchange for cash, he quickly grew excited at its sheer quality, but deliberately undervalued it at Beli100,000,000. Though Luffy and Usopp were easily satisfied, Nami was suspicious of the appraisal, and warned Ishigo of Luffy's bounty before threatening violence. Ishigo was instantly intimidated and exchanged their gold for its rightful cash value: Beli300,000,000.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

In the anime, he claims to have been an appraiser for twenty-five years.

Translation and Dub Issues[]

His name is a pun on a Japanese phrase roughly meaning "You did a good job" (いい仕事してまんな?)—possibly meant as an ironic joke on his needing to be threatened into performing competently. In the 7th popularity poll, it is adapted as Verree Finework.[1]
