"Try Hard, Coby! Diary of Coby-Meppo's Marine Struggles" is the 68th episode of the One Piece anime.
Short Summary
Luffy suddenly remembers about Coby and the scene goes to Helmeppo and Coby's hardships. The Marines were about to give Morgan to Vice Admiral Garp 's custody when he escaped because of the two of them. Instead of being dismissed, they got to go with Garp and he took them to the Marine Headquarters , to where Luffy is, the Grand Line .
Long Summary
The episode starts with the Going Merry suddenly stopping and there is no wind to raise its sail. Vivi worries for the time that they will run out of time if they stay idle. Luffy , Carue and Usopp goes fishing and Sanji asks them where the bait is. Luffy admitted he ate it knowing that they are mealworms, but Luffy said they were pretty good. Luffy brings out a bun which he said they will use for bait, but Sanji said it will not work but when Luffy pointed at Carue for bait, Sanji said it might work. They started chasing Carue around the mast and they hit Zoro while asleep who got mad. Nami even got angry, but Sanji appreciated her when she is angry. Nami remembered all the bad guys Luffy has beaten because Vivi thought it was strange that he has Beli 30,000,000 bounty. Arlong, Don Krieg, Captain Kuro, and Zoro added Axe-Hand Morgan . Upon mentioning his name, Luffy remembered about Coby and the ship caught wind and had set sail. The scene goes to a certain town with a Marine ship and little Coby commandeering it and telling Luffy that he has achieved his dream of becoming a Commissioner. Suddenly, a gigantic watery Morgan appeared on the ocean and was to hit Coby when also a gigantic Luffy stopped him. Luffy threw the giant Morgan and in Coby's eyes, Luffy was glittering and Coby fainted and the scene went to reality and Coby woke up from his dream and fell to Helmeppo whose sleeping below him.
Helmeppo got mad but everyone asleep got mad because he was so noisy. In reality, he was still a Zatsuyou (Oddjobs - Bottom Marine Rank) along with Helmeppo who did the chores. A Marine soldier told them that they enlisted without any qualifications resulting in them being Zatsuyou. Ironically, Coby is still enthusiastic in doing whatever he can while Helmeppo gets mad at Coby for volunteering to more jobs and slacking at doing the chores. They went outside to clean windows and Helmeppo as usual is slacking again remembering his old days when Morgan was still a captain. It is clearly seen in the flashback that Helmeppo greatly depended on Morgan's terror because when he spilled his own cocoa, he scolded the soldiers and made reminded them of his father. He then thought that him being a Zatsuyou was Luffy's fault as he stripped his Dad's position. Coby told Helmeppo that blaming someone won't change anything even your fate. He told Helmeppo that that is a sign of being weak also emphasizing his reliance to his dad. When Coby told Helmeppo his dream about being a Marine officer, Helmeppo disbelieved telling him that's impossible but Coby said he will still do it when he saw how Luffy lived his life and risk his life accomplishing it. They fought on the roof about the probability of their dreams and their cooperation and some Marine soldiers gathered around the building. They suddenly fell and landed on crates and a cannon beside the crates turned around and shot its cannonball hitting a building destroying it. As punishment, they won't get any money for 50 years and they went to eat where Rika and her Mom's store. They said that they escaped from them. Rika brought out a newspaper telling Luffy escaping from Smoker and from Loguetown and Coby discovered that he had reached the Grand Line .
The scene goes to a ship with Marine soldiers guarding Morgan as he is going to a trial. Helmeppo and Coby was on the ship and upon seeing him, the both of them got scared. The Captain tells them that their mission is to escort him to give him to Admiral Garp 's custody so he will go for a court trial. Helmeppo and Coby is now cleaning swords and cannonballs still in the ship and Helmeppo told Coby that even he respected his father. Helmeppo said he wanted to be like his father but knowing he went too far and abused his position. Helmeppo started crying even wondering why he was crying. He asked Coby is his Dad will be executed leaving Coby unable to answer. Garp's ship finally arrives, Helmeppo and Coby went out to see him and Garp is still wearing his dog headwear. When they gave him Morgan to Garp's custody, Garp briefly fell asleep. The captain shouted at him but he shouted back telling him he can hear him. He said he haven't slept for 5 days. He also said that he reached a new record of doughnuts eaten eating 842 without stopping. Garp fell alseep again but Morgan slashed him and he broke his chains getting Helmeppo as a hostage. He said that he doesn't need a son and that he just wants freedom. Morgan sailed with a small boat still holding Helmeppo and the soldiers prepared to fire a cannon. Coby stood infront of the cannon and stopped them from shooting. He told them his friend was in that boat. He swam to reach the small boat. Garp woke up as if nothing happened yawning even and stretching his hand. He put down his hand smashing the cannon and told them that the commotion woke him up. When someone told him they thought he was killed, Garp thought that someone not him was killed and he must have missed it while sleeping and asked where the victim is. Upon realization, he looked at the his slashed chest and jokingly told them it was him. Morgan commands Helmeppo to turn due west and Helmeppo refuses as he can't take it anymore. Helmeppo said he will arrest Morgan and Morgan punched him and asked him if he knows who he is talking to. He asked if what can he do alone and Coby climbs up the ship and told him he is not alone. Coby told Morgan to come along quietly as he too will "arrest" Morgan.
Garp looks at them through binoculars while eating a doughnut and the two of them is easily defeated. As they were fighting Morgan, Morgan grabbed Coby ans got ready to hit him. As he was about to hit him, he threw the two away instead as they were not worth killing for. Helmeppo said he will let Morgan escape today, but someday, they'll cross paths again and he will surely capture him on that day. When they got back to the ship, the Marine soldiers apologized because they had let the criminal escape and it was due to their negligence of not stopping Coby. The captain said they will dismiss the 2 of them because of their actions. Garp said he had no choice so he told them to go with him in the Headquarters and told them if they do not like it, they can run away. With that, Coby and Helmeppo went to sail with Garp and now going to where Luffy is, the Grand line and the episode ends.
