Franky tells Usopp that the Going Merry may not be able to go to the next island, so Franky destroys a bit of the ship. Usopp fights Franky to stop him from dismantling the ship, but Franky throws him underwater so he will glimpse the damaged keel. Usopp sees that the Going Merry will not last and breaks down in tears. He explains that deep down he really knew Merry was running out of time, but didn't want to acknowledge it. He realized this when he saw a mysterious figure mend it in Upper Yard. He heard its voice tell him that it would patch up the ship to keep going a little longer. Usopp believes that the person who repaired the Going Merry in Skypiea was really the Going Merry itself. Franky says that the ship was inhabited by a Klabautermann, a spirit who enters ships who are dearly cared for. The spirit repaired their ship just enough for them to reach the next island. The doorbell rings from the sea side, and the Galley-La Company's foremen enter.
