Daddy Masterson

Daddy Masterson (also known as Daddy the Father) is a bounty hunter and father of Carol.

He knows Captain Smoker, who refers him as a former equal, and is a former elite Marine Sniper. He is introduced in the Loguetown arc. He met Usopp's father, Yasopp, when in a dueling match. Daddy lost, but Yasopp decided to spare his life. However, this had cost Daddy his pride; as a result, resigned his position as Marine sniper. Years later, he meets Usopp in Logue Town and challenges him to a duel. Usopp tries to chicken out at first, but eventually comes to his senses and requests a real duel with Daddy. Daddy instead issues a challenge where Usopp must hit a far off weather vane with his slingshot on the first try.
Usopp not only passes the challenge but hits the impossible to see gem on the weather vane. Daddy congratulates him, convincing him not to lose courage and that he'll find his father in the Grandline, and Carol, his daughter, gives Usopp the goggles he tried to buy eariler.

Daddy and Carol were orginally planned by Oda to be in the Logue Town arc, however Oda desired the journey to begin at chapter 100 so the story was cut from the final version. However, both the Logue town Fillers and the Logue Town Novel feature this cut story. The version of Daddy which features in the Logue Town Novels, however, is very different in appearance to the anime filler Daddy. It is unclear if this was Oda's intended version of him as some details about the Novel remain vague.
