Apoo

Chui Apoo (Also known as Chui-Apoo, Chui Apo, Chui A-poo and Cui-Apu) was a nineteenth century chinese pirate who made his headquarters at Bias Bay. He led a large fleet of 500 junks and attacked ships and coastal villages in the eastern part of the South China Sea, until he killed two british officers in Hongkong. He was eventually hunted down in autumn 1849 off the coast of China by Bristish naval gunboats. Although his fleet was defeated in two battles, Chui Apoo himself could escape, but due to a Bounty of $500 placed on his head he was betrayed and captured and senteced to life imprisonment in Tasmania. He commited suicide in 1851 while in prison.

In One Piece, his name and outward appearance were the basis for Scratchmen Apoo.[1]
