Zoro, Usopp and Johnny have arrived in front of Arlong Park. In order to prevent Zoro from acting foolishly against Fishmen, he is tied by the two other while they are searching for the Going Merry. They found it a short moment after, anchoring near a village. Usopp who acted bravely once away from Arlong Park, retrieves is coward attitude once he notices 3 Fishmen next to the boat. He and Johnny even flee into the sea, once they have been spotted, letting Zoro alone and powerless in front of the Fishmen.

When Usopp and Johnny arrive on ground, they notice that the village has been completely devastated, very likely by the Fishmen. While they are impressed by the power of these creatures they have only heard about yet, one of them has return to catch them, suspicious of Zoro being alone. While Johnny is able to hide himself, Usopp starts running when he bumps into a kid Sabo and a woman Nojiko. When the Fishman is about to retrieve them, Usopp decides to act bravily for once and to defend the 2 villagers, but is knocked out by Nojiko.

As he wakes up, the 3 of them are in Nojiko house in an orange farm. Nojiko tells them that one shall not fight the Fishmen since it only means suicide. Sabo, a boy from Gosa Village, which has been destroyed recently and whose father has been killed, shall understand that and return to his mother rather than searching revenge.

Usopp understanding that Nojiko intentions are finally not bad, reveals her that he is looking after a girl named Nami. Nojiko then reveals him that Nami and her are step sisters and that she is a member of Arlong Pirates.
