The arguably most famous portrayal of Hook in the Disney classic "Peter Pan"

Captain Hook is a fictional pirate from the story Peter Pan who was found in Never Neverland. He is named after the hook on the end of his left hand which covers a missing hand. He was afraid of a big crocodile that lived in Never Neverland who was said to be his mortal enemy and was frightened it would eat him one day, after he tasted his left hand and got a taste for Hook.He was always aware of its approaching by the sound of a clock the crocodile has once swallowed.

[edit] One Piece

The idea behind Crocodiles's hook seems to have come from this famous fictional pirate, specially considering the fact he is the only seen pirate in One Piece with a hook. Other aspects about Crocodile come from Peter Pan in general, his name is from the beast that hunted Captain Hook. Also like Captain Hook's main enemy, Peter Pan, who was a young boy living in a dream world, Sir Crocodile's main enemy, Monkey D. Luffy, is also a young boy full of dreams.
