From One Piece Encyclopedia

[edit] One Piece
In the world of One Piece, Bartholomew Kuma, a member of the Shichibukai, carries a book with "BIBLE" printed on it with him. However, it is not known if the Bible carried by Kuma is the same as Bible of the real world. When Perona answers Kuma's question about where she would like to travel, Kuma seems to search for the described location in the Bible before sending her to Kuraigana Island, which almost exactly matches her answer.[1][2] A similarly labeled bible was also held by a Lyneelian priest.[3]
In the English Dub anime, the BIBLE is edited out for religious controversies.
Interestingly enough, Oda often uses Biblical references in his works, such as the names of several characters.
[edit] Reference
- Below are characters who may be named from parts of the Bible. Take note that linked characters are fictional One Piece characters and are, of course, very different from the real world humans by the same name.
- Saul - Named after the first King of ancient Israel.
- Absalom - A Jewish name. Absalom was a son of King David. It is unknown why Oda chose this name for this specific character.
- Jesus Burgess - Presumably named after Jesus Christ of the Bible, the main focus of the Christian religion. In the English dub, his name is changed to G. Zass Burgess, presumably to avoid offending viewers with the religious reference.
